The War is over and it is time for those who fought so bravely on both sides to engage in more social and peaceful pursuits. Join us for an evening of contradances, quadrilles, waltzes and polkas taught and directed by Barbara Pugliese to the live music of Spare Parts. Civil War period dress (day or evening, civilian or military) is required for this event. Contact us for assistance if you wish to attend but lack proper dress. Feel free to consult our 1860s Costume Hints page for information on period dress.

You may register on-line. Registration is $25 ($15 for students with ID) if registered in advance;
a $5 surcharge applies at the door (space permitting—admittance is not guaranteed without a reservation).

Regency Intensive Dance Weekend
April 12-13, 2014

Join the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers for an Intensive Dance Weekend of time travel, and experience the Regency as never before. Dance like Jane Austen, party like Napoleon, or socialize like Dolley Madison. This intensive dance weekend, which takes place in that most noteworthy Federal town of Salem, MA, will feature hours of classes on everything you need to know about early nineteenth-century dance. Add to that an evening dance party and period games and amusements, and you’ll be a Regency expert in no time. All this builds to the final Grand Ball, an unforgettable experience in period splendor at Hamilton Hall. Whether you’re a history buff, a fan of Jane Austen, a BBC-miniseries junkie, or just a romantic at heart, you won’t want to miss this!

Waltz lesson from 6:30 to 7:00 Ball from 7:00-10:00 Refreshments at 8:00

Join old friends and new at our Civil War ball. Dance the night away to the beautiful music of the Ad Hoc Waltz and Quadrille Band. Attend a waltz class just before the ball begins, and learn other dances as they are taught throughout the evening. Come in period evening clothes or modern party clothes.

You are Cordially Invited to attend Fezziwig’s Ball, an unforgettable Evening of Dance and Merriment from the era of Dickens. Much of the program will consist of set dances which will be taught during the evening. These will include such Victorian favorites as Pop Goes the Weasel and other easy contradances and simple quadrilles, as well as Sir Roger de Coverly, an English version of the Virginia Reel. Interspersed with these will be elegant couple dances such as the waltz and polka.
