Regency Ball

Civil War Dance Weekend

November 8 & 9, 2014
1A North Road, Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Join the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers for an immersive weekend of Civil War dance and socializing. Saturday afternoon classes taught by Barbara Pugliese will give you a chance to learn the dances in a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere. Whirl around with a partner to the glorious music of the Ad Hoc Waltz and Quadrille Band at the Saturday Grand Ball. Come to the Sunday afternoon Fête where we will play period games, eat delicious refreshments and dance. The centerpiece of the Fête will be a German where dancers engage in games and contests. Whether you are eager to show off you newly aquired dance skills, or are just content to watch your friends, the German will be a charming way to end the weekend.

Tiara Tea

Tiara Tea

Examples of period dress will be on view and ladies will learn about period hairstyles and have the chance to style their hair in an 1890s chignon and try on extravagant tiaras. At the same time gentlemen will learn about period neckties and learn how to tie a bowtie. Participants will have the chance to have their photo taken wearing their new styles as a souvenir. The afternoon will end with a period tea. Formal afternoon dress is requested.
 
The event will run from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and is an introduction to the 1890s in preparation for January’s Ball at the Winter Palace.

fezziwigs ball

Fezziwig’s Ball

You are Cordially Invited to attend Fezziwig’s Ball, an unforgettable Evening of Dance and Merriment from the era of Dickens. Much of the program will consist of set dances which will be taught during the evening. These will include such Victorian favorites as Pop Goes the Weasel and other easy contradances and simple quadrilles, as well as Sir Roger de Coverly, an English version of the Virginia Reel. Interspersed with these will be elegant couple dances such as the waltz and polka.

The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a lantern procession through the streets of Salem. Dancing will commence at 7:00 pm. Please note the earlier start times! Lavish refreshments will be served at the intermission. The evening’s festivities will conclude at 10:00 pm. Modern Evening Dress or Costume from Dickens’ Lifetime is Requested. Ball at the Winter Palace

Please join us for an evening in the 1890s! CVD is excited to be hosting a new 1890s ball at the stunning Dane Estate. Plans are developing for a whole weekend of activities in Boston, with the grand, European-style ball as the centerpiece. On Sunday we will be touring the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline and having a period skating party at a nearby skating rink. Start picking out your tiara and sharpening your skates now, and stay tuned for more announcements as we plan the event of the season. Details coming soon!

Returning Heroes Ball

Every year we commemorate the heroes from both sides of the War Between the States with a magical night in the 1860s. This is the only event of the year for which period-correct attire is required, but please don’t let that stop you from attending! We are happy to help you borrow something if needed.
