dancing on georges island

Dancing on Georges Island
Sunday, July 20, 12:00 noon
Georges Island, Boston Harbor, Massachusetts
Sponsored by Boston Harbor Island Alliance &
Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation

The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers will be performing on Georges Island. Come and join us for a lovely day of harbor breezes and Civil War dancing. We will be recreating a Civil War Ball with performances, participatory dancing and wonderful music from the Ad Hoc Quadrille and Contra Dance Band. The island’s Fort Warren, which was used as a prison for Confederate officers, has a significant Civil War history and we are happy to help observe it. If you have 1860s clothes, feel free to wear them and add to the atmosphere.

The dancing is free once you take the ferry to the island. Wear comfortable clothes for a summer outing, either Civil War period or modern. The event will take place rain or shine. If the weather is inclement, we will be dancing in the fort’s old hospital. The event will run from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM. For more information about Georges Island and the ferries, check out their website.
