Join the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers for a spooky ball to celebrate Mary Shelly, her friends, and her literary creations. Transport yourself to 1818 as we dance in the shadow of Frankenstein. We will have historically accurate live music and all dances will be taught during the course of the evening. Beginners are welcome, and it is not necessary to have a partner to attend.
We will teach an optional dance class from 6 to 6:30, which will cover some of the Regency dance figures that will be used later in the evening. These figures will be taught again, so this class is truly optional.
To create the most immersive environment, please wear a costume from the early 19th century or modern formal dress. The aesthetic for the ball is spooky and faded elegance. Please avoid obvious blood and gore – it is simply not polite in the ballroom.
Please note: Your costume does not need to be inspired by recent Frankenstein movies. We welcome many interpretations of Mary Shelley’s work.
Tickets for this event are non-refundable but they are transferrable. Ticket sales will remain open until all tickets are sold, so you can check the ticket site for availability if plans change at the last minute and you find that you are able to attend. For more details on our policies and information about participation (children, dress, dance, etc.) please read our FAQ.
