Men, if your formal white breeches and silk stockings are at the cleaners, you can wear a dark suit for this ball.

Ladies, you don't have to look like Queen Victoria on your first outing. If you want to check out the dancing and have a lovely evening without committing to the costume, wear a simple long or long-ish dress.

Queen Victoria enjoyed dancing, which was lucky--many balls were held in her honor on state visits! We love these paintings that capture some of those events. Have you gotten your ticket to The Victoria and Albert Ball yet? Don't miss the fun! ... See MoreSee Less

In honor of our first week of Royal Court Classes, here's Her Majesty's account of her first state ball:
"The rooms I must say looked beautiful, were so well lit up...I danced (a Quadrille of course) first (in the large ballroom) with George; and 2ndly with Prince Nicholas Esterhazy. There was a waltz between each quadrille. We then went into the other ballroom where I dance two quadrilles...I did not leave the ballroom till 10 minutes to four!! It was a lovely ball, so gay, so nice,--and I felt so happy and so merry; I had not danced for so long and was so glad to do so again!" -Journals,1838

We hope you'll join the merry-making at The Victoria and Albert Ball!

We're looking forward to the start of our Royal Court Dance Classes this Sunday to prepare a quadrille for The Victoria and Albert Ball! Not sure what a quadrille looks like? Here's some excerpts from the Prince Imperial Quadrille filmed at a performance at the Old Town Hall in Salem!
Tickets are available for both the classes and the ball at the link in the comments.

We are so excited about the Royal Court Quadrille Classes that start next Sunday! Last night, we rehearsed the Caledonian Quadrilles so that we're ready to teach it effectively. We filmed it, so that students will be able to review it between classes.

Royal Court Dance ClassesOctober 1, 2017, 6:00pmWaltham, MATICKETS NOW ON SALE! Join us for an immersive evening in the mid-19th century as an exclusive member of Victoria and Albert's Royal Court!

This event is for three dance classes (10/1, 10/8, 10/15) offered as part of the Royal Court package for the Victoria and Albert Ball (tiny.cc/vnaball).

For this event, we are offering a unique chance to be immersed in the 19th century! Royal Court tickets provide:

-three dance classes in advance of the ball
-announced entrance at the ball by our liveried master of ceremonies
-a court sash and Royal Order medal to wear for the evening and take home as a souvenir from the event
-the opportunity to perform a quadrille at the ball (learned in advance)

Royal Court ticket holders will attend three classes in advance of the ball on October 1, 8, 15 at our studio in Waltham, MA. During these classes, courtiers will learn some basic ballroom dancing. They will also learn and rehearse a complete quadrille with the support of dancers from CVD. At the ball, courtiers will perform the quadrille they have practiced to earn a Royal Order. Being a courtier is supposed to be fun. We hope that our courtiers will look forward to performing at the ball. If a courtier chooses to forgo the performance for any reason we will provide a substitute to dance in their place.

If you have questions about your Royal Court ticket, reach out to us at query@vintagedancers.org.

We're reading some of Queen Victoria's published journals in anticipation of The Victoria and Albert Ball next month. She writes: "A ball was given in honour of my birthday at St James's...I danced in all 8 quadrilles. We came home at 1/2 past 12. I was VERY much amused."

We're looking forward to being equally amused! Want to practice your quadrilling in advance? You can join us for Royal Court Classes starting October 1st!

I may be joining the promenade late, is there a tentative route in case I need to catch up?

We will likely walk down Hawthorne Blvd to Derby Steet, then past the Custom House and down the wharf. Back to Essex Street and walk through the pedestrian area and further down Essex to Cambridge St. We'll end at the little park opposite 9 Chestnut Street.

Coming on September 9! Dance like Marriane Dashwood or Colonel Brandon in an evening of lively country dances and elegant figured waltzes. Expert teaching and prompting from Antonia Pugliese will have everyone enjoying themselves on the dance floor. We will serve delicious refreshments and there will be a chance to socialize and make new friends during the intermission – just watch out for Mr. Willoughby. He’s a bit of a cad.
Historically accurate clothing from 1795-1815 will be much admired, but it is not required. Modern clothes or thrift store finds that are evocative of the period are also appropriate. This ball is perfect for beginners.
