Fifty years after the American Revolution, the United States invited the Marquis de Lafayette to return and admire the success of the young country.
In August of 1824, he visited Salem’s Hamilton Hall. Last year, we celebrated that visit with a ball at Hamilton Hall. In 1825, Lafayette concluded his trip, returning to Boston and dedicating the Bunker Hill Monument. The time has come to celebrate his second Massachusetts visit with another ball!
Join the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers for a recreation of an 1825 ball to mark the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to dedicate the Bunker Hill Monument. Learn historically accurate dancing, enjoy marvelous period music played live, and indulge in delicious refreshments in a glittering ballroom.
To create the most immersive environment, all participants are REQUIRED to wear high quality costume from the period of 1800-1825. If you don’t have an outfit from this period, we suggest that you consider a different CVD ball where modern formal dress is a welcome option.
Did you attend our 2024 ball to celebrate the Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to Salem? Or did you miss it the first time? Don’t miss this one!
